Dial M for Masterpiece

I watched Alfred Hitchcock's Dial M for Murder today. Crikey they don't make 'em like that anymore. No one acts like that anymore. The cast was so eloquent and poised. But as I didn't live in the 1950s, I have no way of knowing if this was just the way people acted in films and that people were really the same as we are now on the street. I'm after realising this is a stupid thing to try to talk about. It doesn't matter. It is inconsequential. While the allure of the 1940s and 1950s silver screen is very enticing to a person who dwells in a world where manners and grace (including the author's own) are rare indeed, whether an image or not, we cannot return to the past (just like I can't return to the past and resist all those Christmas diabetes-inducing sweeties). All one can do is admire the style of Hitchcock and the way his players make etiquette appear effortless.

It's Crimbotime

mmm...I've been peer pressured into updating my blog so here goes. So I'm avoiding the shops coz I still have to wait for my next wages before I can do any present shopping. It seems like the whole hullabaloo around Christmas really started early this year.Sometimes I get disillusioned with the hype and I wonder will I get that nice Christmas feeling and I think I usually do at some point around those few days. My liver sure knows when it's Christmas as it is assaulted for work do's and parties. It has already BEGUN. Looking forward to seeing 'The Golden Compass', it looks really cool from the ads and was a favorite trilogy. Fingers crossed that it rocks. A polar bear in armor, how can it fail?

Arcade Fire Gig Wed Dublin Oct 07

Yay! Well up there among my most favorite gigs with Afghan Whigs in Dublin (Red Box I think) in prob 1998, Yeah Yeah Yeahs at Electric Picnic 2006 and Surfjan Stevens 2006. But Arcade Fire were a whole different kettle of fish. Now there's a band who understand themselves. The visuals were PERFECT and reminiscent of early black and white t.v. (like early music footage of Elvis, sorta curved) and also early silent film. It was an exciting event and I've been in love with Win Butler and Regine since the gig. The Neon Bible makes me think of turn of the century circus and magic shows. I love that their music makes me think of a story to go along with it. I had moments where I was just smiling up into the air because here I was able to sing along live to the music that I love to sing along to. Black Mirror, Television Antichrist, Neighborhood among the best but so much more, that mores the pity I have already forgotten. Puny brain

The Cohabitor

So I recently moved in with my boyfriend. I am the Cohabitor! A bit like the Terminator but not as scary or metallic (except for that metal plate in my ass that I got in 'Nam). It's nice, a bit of a learning curve. It's still new to come home to see someone and think 'I live with this person'. I've got the gaff to myself for an evening and that's good too. I've already gone to the loo with the door open and burped around the place. It's lovely living with someone but it is still cool to have a bit of time on your own. I don't think I've mad any ground shattering breakthroughs here. People move in together all the time. It's just happened to me and I'm the centre of the universe so bow down before me, puny earthlings! Thank You

Me as a Simpson

Happy Holidays

So I'm back in the good old grey and yet totally muggy, weird ass weather having Ireland. Had a great couple of weeks travelling in Germany- Berlin and Munich and Prague, in the Czech Republic. We saw some great sights, ate sausages, drank superior and cheaper beer and were forced to watch CNN non stop(only English speaking channel). I now know that if I hear the music played during the non-speaky news items one more time, I will indeed, go crazy. I sang many stupid songs that annoyed my boyfriend so it was all worth it. I'm pretending I don't have to go back to work Tuesday and so far that bit of self denial is going very well thank you. I went to see the Simpsons movie and that cheered me up too. This is a very boring blog. I better jazz it up with something interesting.(Hence the above)
